Hobbies
We enjoy several recreational activities to unwind and enjoy each other's company during our all-too-rare free time.
Day Trips
We love going to festivals, children's fun fairs, educational offerings, Old English/Ren Faires, museums, you name it. If it's not too far away, and we have the money and are all healthy, we're up for it.
A current favorite we enjoy is going to Springfield, IL, where the kids get to go to "Jungle 'o Fun". Of course, we've only gone there because we had to take the kids to the allergist, but it was nice to get out of town even if for that reason. That place wears them out enough that we can then enjoy a restarant, visiting the bookstore, and sometimes even a movie or other kid's event. Age appropriate, of course.
Flying Kites
I really enjoy flying kites, something we don't get to do very often. Right now Kellen is still too small to be safe around our big kites unless someone is watching him at all times, but our small ones are perfect. We just don't seem to have much time to do it, or the weather isn't cooperative. I see a lot of kite-flying in our future when the kids get older.
Going for Bike Rides
This is a Daddy/kids thing. I haven't been on a bike since preggers with Kellen, but I plan on getting back on it this summer. Our goal is to make this a weekly family event, and we hope to join the 'critical mass' ride on fridays in Macomb someday.
Visiting Parks
There's never been a park that we haven't felt like stopping in and letting the kids run around. Macomb is blessed with some great spaces for kids that really aren't parks, like the McArthur Early Childhood Center (a preschool) and the Horrabin Hall Preschool Playground. Alas, there's not much in the way of decent equipment for very young children at any of the Macomb Parks, but the community leaders are trying to do something about that.
Reading Books & Magazines
Daddy loves his Linux Journal.
Mommy is all about scrapbooking magazines or parenting mags or newspapers right now...you know, things that can be read when one has little concentration power or blocks of time.
I also really enjoy my Martha Steward Magazine, surprisingly, since she annoys the heck out of me. But there's tons of tips and interesting backstory on everyday items.
Scrapbooking
Our scrapbook store closed down, so Mommy doesn't do a whole lot of this right now. I'll get back to it later in summer, 2007 once we get the house organized.
Playing with Toys
Alas, our toy store shut down. Mommy gets most toys from yard sales right now.
Surfing the Internet/Web
Of course this is the core of how we get our news/info from friends/family.
Computer Games
I love the building/role-playing games; Peter loves the shoot em up games, along with the civilization type scenario games.
